About CJ Nelson Designs

Few surfers have shaped modern longboarding like CJ Nelson. His design library is built with a tight circle of respected shapers — Ian Chisholm, Ryan Engle, and Darius Gross — and it leans into the logs, midlengths, and fish that reward style over force. The result is a lineup that suits boards for trim, glide, and time on the nose.

Finding the right model If you're chasing noseriding and that classic, drawn-out feel, start with the Oracle, Sprout 2.0, or Paragon. Want something looser and more versatile under your feet? The Slasher Low Pro and Parallax Plus blend traditional glide with a livelier, more responsive ride. For a shorter, do-everything quiver, look to the midlength Outlier and Outlier X, or the compact Milo. Not sure where you fit? Thunderbolt vs. poly construction

Most CJ models are available in Thunderbolt Technologies — a high-tech epoxy build that's light, strong, and resistant to dings and pressure dents. It comes in three constructions: Thunderbolt Red (a livelier, more responsive flex), Thunderbolt Black (a carbon build that adds stiffness and drive for a more locked-in feel), and Thunderbolt Silver featuring torque in the nose and tail. If you prefer the weight, glide, and timeless feel of a traditional board, our CJ Nelson Customs are shaped in classic polyester. Each has its place — come by and we'll talk through the trade-offs so you pick the one that matches your surfing, not just the spec sheet.
